My first impression about camera was that it is incredibly small but then again… It is just partially truth. Camera is indeed very small but as soon as you attach zoom lens to it, its portability is no longer so great. Camera came equipped with FE 28-70mm F3.5-56 OSS lens and that thing is about same size as any other lens of that zoom range. In other words, it is not actually a camera that you could carry in your pocket, it is somewhere between small DSLR and pocket camera.

Quality of images that this camera does is absolutely amazing. Full frame that this camera has means that in poor light conditions you have much less grain on high ISO settings then with any other camera that size that I had chance to try. I almost never shoot above ISO 800 with my camera, but with this camera I would definitely be quite comfortable up to ISO 6400. On 6400 image grain that alpha 7 have is in my feel about same as analogue films had on around ISO 200. Camera is really fast and responsive.

Color reproduction is not perfect but it is good, which isn’t much of a problem since I always shoot RAW image so it is easy enough to correct it. Dynamic range of this camera also impressed me. Even on portraits made with high contrast light conditions I didn’t have blown out portions on skin of my subjects.

About lens itself I can tell you that it is amazingly sharp, with minimal (barely noticeable) blue chromatic aberrations but it does distort picture more then I expect.

Video mode is very good, especially in low light but it feels digital and I can’t believe that anyone compares it with video that Canon DSLR’s shoot.

All in all, I am pleased with almost every aspect of SONY Alpha 7 except with its price. It is too expensive for what it is (around1836 US$ – body only).
